FAQ

Where is the shop?

On the first floor of Afflecks Palace in Central Manchester. There are entrances on Oldham Street, Tib Street and Church Street. If you go in the Church St entrance, up to the first floor, turn left we’re on the left just after the body jewellery shop.

What are the opening times?

We are open Monday to Friday 10.30am – 6pm, Saturdays 10am – 6pm. Contact us for Bank Holiday opening hours.

Is the shop accessible?

Pretty much, yes. There is a lift by the Church Street entrance. Unfortunately there are a couple of steps to get in. Telephone Afflecks on 0161 839 0718 when you arrive they can provide access assistance (i.e. a ramp and a hand with the lift if needed). Afflecks is a bit maze-like so be prepared to navigate a few tight spaces.

What payment methods do you accept?

Cash and cheques with a valid cheque guarantee card.
We do not accept credit or debit cards, but may do so in the future.

What do you sell exactly?

Vegetarian Shoes, Secret Society of Vegans t-shirts, bags, badges and mugs, Vegan Fitness t-shirts and bags, veggie and vegan books, vegan protein bars, sweets.

All our products are vegetarian and vegan.

Vegetarian shoes? What?

Vegetarians don’t eat animals, many don’t wear animals either.

Vegetarian shoes are shoes which are made without using any animal products, so you will find no leather, suede, wool or animal derived glues in any of the shoes we stock.

Vegetarian Shoes is a company based in Brighton who, as the name suggests, produce vegetarian shoes. All their shoes are made in the EU, many in the UK.

Are the shoes waterproof?

Pretty much as waterpoof as their leather counterparts. Trainers are breathable but not waterpoof, The Doc Marten style boots and shoes are as waterproof as the leather ones. Sandals, flip-flops etc. are obviously not waterproof!

Secret Society of Vegans? You what?

A clandestine organisation that make some really cool t-shirts, badges and mugs. We stock a selection of their t-shirts, bags and badges. They have a website and a shop in Camden (in London).

Vegan Fitness?

Veganfitness.net is a friendly internet discussion forum for sporty vegans. Members from around the world, including many from Manchester, share their training tips and arrange meet-ups. Vegan Fitness have produced t-shirts and bags, which we sell in the shop.

Why are the protein bars so expensive?

Compared to chocolate bars they are expensive but they are a similar price to regular protein bars, with the Soy Bars being towards the cheaper end and the Builder Bars the more expensive end. The Builder Bars are expensive for us to buy so that is why we can’t sell them cheaper. We are the only shop in the UK that stocks either of these protein bars. It is possible to get them online, but you will have to pay postage.

Can you sell my stuff?

Maybe. Everything we sell is vegetarian / vegan. Get in touch and we can talk about it.

Can I put leaflets / posters / flyers in your shop?

Yes. Space is limited, so theirs not really room for posters but we can usually take flyers for veggie / vegan related things.

Do you have an online shop?

Not at the moment. A major reason for having a real shop rather than an online one was so that people could see, feel and try on shoes and clothing before deciding on whether to buy them. Ordering online can be hit and miss. Items are not always as you expect and do not necessarily fit comfortably even if they are the right size.

We may sell some of our products online in the future, but if you can’t make it into the shop most of our products can be found online elsewhere.
